Have you ever wanted to learn to forge your own knife?
In our 4 part bladesmithing class, you will learn how to forge, grind, heat treat, polish and handle your own knife from high carbon steel.
Classes are 16 years of age and up. for younger students please contact us for private instruction.

Have you always wanted to add pattern welded / Damascus steel to your bag of tricks? You will learn to forge weld and fold two different types of steel together, and manipulate the pattern to get a unique look to your projects during this 2-day weekend class. You will leave this class with a billet of patterned steel and the skills to be able to make it on your own.

Using the forge, tongs & hammer in addition to basic grinding and hardening techniques you’ll learn how to forge a Curved Blade when you make this knife from high carbon steel. In this one night class you’ll make a functional knife perfect for chopping herbs and cutting pizza
To start this project you will draw out the handle and forge your blade. Once you’re happy with the shape we will help you finish your chopper by showing you how to grind the face of the blade and harden to better keep an edge. A combination of basic bladesmithing and blacksmithing skills make this a great class for beginners.

This beginner class is perfect for getting started and seeing what this old time craft is about. We will be concentrating on learning about the tools such as the forge tongs & hammer, and how to use them by making a simple knife or letter opener with an all-metal twisted handle integral knife. From shaping and twisting to grinding and hardening we will help you complete your blade in one night.

Our most popular workshop is now a two night workshop - you asked and we listened!
Learn to make your own EDC knife in this two-night workshop. Workshops are held on 2 consecutive days.
You will get started by learning about the tools such as the forge, tongs & hammer as you use them to create your blade shape. Once you have a nicely shaped edge for your knife we will show you how to grind and harden the blade. You will also learn how to make a para-cord wrapped handle. This class is a great way to get the feel of a hammer and what it takes to make a blade.

To start this project you will draw out the handle and forge your blade. Once you’re happy with the shape we will help you finish your chopper by showing you how to grind the face of the blade and harden to better keep an edge. A combination of basic bladesmithing and blacksmithing skills make this a great class for beginners.
Ashley Shaw is a bladesmith and blacksmith with over 15 years experience and training in both historical and modern techniques. A Forged in Fire runner-up, Ashley enjoys sharing his love of the craft with others through teaching.

Join us again for our most epic class, sword making. In this 10 week class you’ll be forging a double edged sword. Students will forge their own blade, guard and pommel, as well as fitting a wooden handle to it. We will offer demos and instruction on design options for your sword, using books and historical references to create your very own sword.
Students should have some experience around the forge (that could even be just one of our one night classes) to get the most out of this offering. Seats for this offering are very limited, don’t wait to reserve your spot today.

This introductory class is perfect for getting started and seeing what this old time craft is about. We will be concentrating on learning the basics of blacksmithing. You will learn to use some of the tools by making a bottle opener.

In this class we you will learn to forge a steel skull, to sit on your desk or shelf. We will be learning some new skills starting with the Coal Iron 16 ton forging press. You will be using punches and chisels as well as a hammer to add character to your project.

Learn the basics of blacksmithing with this new take on on old standard. You will be hooked on these hooks too because many blacksmithing cornerstones are used to make this surprisingly not-so-simple project. You’ll learn to draw a tapper, bend, twist, texture and rivet - all skills you’ll use and build on as you move onto other disciplines (bladesmithing, jewelry, sculpture and more).

A class just for martial artists and cosplayers. You will forge a kunai from 1075 carbon steel. You will learn to forge the bevels, drift the hole and optionally you can turn it into a bottle opener by punching the tab for the bottle opener, you will then harden the blade and grind to final shape. This is a unique beginner class that we think you will enjoy.

Open Studio is from 5PM-8PM unless otherwise stated.
We have started offering Open Studio hours the first Thursday of every month. If you have taken any of our classes or have some previous blacksmithing experience (self taught or at another school) and have emailed us in advance (info@cosommetalwork.com) you’re invited to work alongside our artists on your own projects.
This is a great way to get some practice without having to buy your own equipment. Adlai will be around checking up with students to offer any guidance they may need but please come prepared to get yourself started without instruction.
In addition to the Studio being open during this session we will also have our Gallery open to the public free of charge. Stop by to pick up handcrafted goods created by our artists.
